Tomorrow offers two opportunities to explore AGC’s approach to building healthy communities, as two AGC staff members will present at different food-focused conferences in Chicago.
The 10th annual GOOD FOOD FESTIVAL kicked off yesterday with opening remarks from Mayor Rahm Emanuel and a symposium lead by Whole Foods CEO Walter Robb and featuring Howard Tullman of 1871 and Erika Allen of Growing Power. Today’s festivities include a trade show from 8:30 am to 7:00 pm and the Localicious party begins at 7:00 with treats from Death’s Door Spirits, Virtue Cider, Eatily and more. Development Associate Katherine Elmer-DeWitt will present at the festival tomorrow at the Good Food in Your School panel featuring representatives from E.A.T, Healthy Schools Campaign, Gourmet Gorilla and the USDA. Tomorrow’s festival also includes chef demonstrations from Rick Bayless and Jason Vincent, a CSA Pavillion, an Exhibit Hall with 150 purveyors of good food and more!
The International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP) kicks off today with food tours that offer culinary professionals from around the world a taste of Chicago’s food culture with a chocolate tour (featuring Mindy Segal’s Hot Chocolate), a “Meaty City” tour (featuring Paul Kahan’s Publican Quality Meats), a Randolph St. tour, an Evanston tour and a feature on the Chicago hot dog! Tomorrow’s program is packed with workshops, presentations and networking. AGC’s K-2 Wellness instructor, Arathi Jayaram will present at Kendall College with Purple Asparagus and Kids in the Kitchen. Ms. Jayaram will share AGC’s approach to fostering healthy and sustainable habits in young children with an interactive lesson for students.
