In our continued commitment to accelerating the adoption of effective sustainability and wellness programs in schools across the country and around the world, the Academy for Global Citizenship has begun to deliver a series of free professional development seminars for elementary and middle school teachers and administrators. We are proud to continue this endeavor with the help of our co-host, the Illinois Green Alliance, by offering two collaborative seminars: one on Wednesday, June 9th, and the other on Saturday, June 12th. Topic: Implementing a Framework for Sustainability and Wellness: A Best-Practices ConversationDescriptionJoin staff from the Academy for Global Citizenship (AGC) and representatives from the Illinois Green Alliance in a virtual workshop to offer suggestions and resources to help you create an action plan for integrating sustainability and wellness into your classroom or school community. AGC Sustainability Coordinator Glenda Gonzalez and Wellness teacher Bryan Soto will lead a session for teachers and school leaders sharing best practices for introducing students to the concepts of sustainability and wellness at an early age and making sure those ideas live on throughout the academic program and building operations. The workshop will give an overview of how AGC:
1. Connects classroom units and practices to global topics,
2. Ensures our building operations reflect our sustainable mission and vision and
3. Provides wellness instruction to all students in addition to a typical PE program.
All participants will receive a copy of AGC’s Sustainability and Wellness Framework with more actionable tips to think about energy usage, waste reduction, environmental education, and wellness initiatives as well as exemplary teaching resources from AGC classrooms.
