Job Descriptions

Part Time Bilingual Art Teacher 

The Academy for Global Citizenship seeks an exemplary bilingual Art teacher for grades 3-5 to lead students through a holistic interdisciplinary International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. This teacher will rotate through 3 dual language classrooms over the course of each week, seeing all students 2-3 times/week.  This position is ideal for a passionate bilingual educator seeking a collaborative and open environment for whole-student learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching: Uses various modes of learning to accommodate different learning styles: real-life experiences, current events, technology, arts and more
  • Instructional Strategies: Uses many types of instructional strategies including teaching through inquiry, differentiating instruction and using data to guide planning
  • Technology Integration: Incorporates technology across all disciplines as much as possible, where appropriate
  • Professional Development: Participates in 22 pd days, stays abreast of latest techniques and demonstrates an eagerness to learn new skills and share experiences with others
  • Curriculum Development: Works closely with coach, other teachers to align curriculum with Common Core Learning Standards, the IB PYP, Spanish as a World Language and achieving the goals of the school
  • Performance Assessment: Sets high and measurable goals for student achievement and evaluates student progress using summative and formative assessments

Part time 3rd-5th Grade Spanish Teacher

The Academy for Global Citizenship is seeking a part time Spanish Teacher. This position is for third through fifth grade. We have both monolingual and dual language programs. The 3-5 Spanish Teacher teaches Spanish as a World Language in the monolingual program. There are 3 classrooms, and the teacher meets with them 5 days a week, 40 minutes/day.

AGC teachers are responsible for helping our children learn, classroom management, participating in professional development, assisting in the development of and improvements to curriculum, and communicating to staff and parents regarding student performance. This position is ideal for a passionate educator seeking a collaborative and open environment for whole-student learning.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teach Spanish as a second language in third, fourth, and fifth grades
  • Collaborating with staff in grades 3-5
  • Rotating to different classrooms to teach Spanish

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Biliterate in Spanish and English
  • 5+ years of related experience
  • Strong leadership skills and personal drive
  • Familiarity with an educational environment
  • An entrepreneurial spirit

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • State of Illinois teaching certificate in relevant area
  • Certification in Bilingual Education preferred

Special Education Teacher

The Academy for Global Citizenship seeks an exemplary special education teacher.  Special education teachers are responsible for helping all of our children learn, classroom management, participating in professional development, providing feedback to others, taking ownership in the development and improvements of Individual Educational Plan (IEP), consulting general education teachers on special needs, and communicating to staff and parents regarding student performance. This position involves teaching students in their general education classrooms as well as pulling students out in small groups. Special education teachers report to the Principal.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching: provides students with special needs with various modes of learning to accommodate their different learning styles, by using inquiry, real-life experiences, current events, information technology, the dramatic arts and other lively sources of knowledge.
  • Instructional Strategies: responsible for using many different types of instructional strategies including teaching through inquiry, differentiating instruction (different learning styles and language backgrounds) and data-driven instruction.
  • Technology Integration: incorporates technology across all disciplines as much as possible, where appropriate.
  • Professional Development: participates in coaching cycle, stays abreast of latest techniques and demonstrates an eagerness to learn new skills and share experiences with others.
  • Curriculum Development: works closely with coach, other teachers to ensure taught curriculum is aligned with Common Core Learning Standards, the IB PYP/MYP, and is achieving the goals of the school.
  • IEPs: designs and writes the IEP or 504 plans of students in his/her caseload based on evidence-based data and in regards to Spec. Ed law.
  • Performance Assessment: sets high and measurable goals for student achievement and evaluates student progress in the instructional program.
  • Community: encourages the use of community resources, cooperates with families in welcoming them to our community, and maintains solid communication with all community members.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • 5+ years experience as an educator (ideal)
  • Bilingual and biliterate (English/Spanish)
  • Familiarity with IB program (ideal)
  • Familiarity with various educational models: Inquiry-based teaching and Responsive Classroom
  • Believer in culturally relevant teaching
  • Strong leadership skills and personal drive

Director of Operations

The OD is responsible for all leadership and management issues related to the ‘business’ of The Academy for Global Citizenship, including but not limited to finance, human resources, facility, advocacy, board governance, compliance, and development.

The OD works alongside the principal in leading and representing AGC to ensure a high quality education for our students and efficient and productive operations.

Finance

  • Manages, reviews, and oversees the Operational and Capital budgets, quarterly and annual financial statements for the school
  • Manages all banking business and technology related vendor relationships, flows of funds, procurement, etc., and ensures an effective system of internal control is present.
  • Leads and reviews Chicago Public School compliance and public funding reporting
  • Oversees all transactions and reporting related to tax credit financing
  • Manages annual audit for the school
  • Provides accounting and reporting for all gifts, grants and donations.
  • Maintains QuickBooks data entry.
  • Creates monthly reviews of the school’s financial condition and performance relative to financial objectives for the principal, BoD and ED.  
  • Manages financial and accounting policies.
  • Implements business processes to ensure adequate financial and cost controls.

Facility

  • Supervises maintenance and security staff
  • Manages maintenance systems and procedures to ensure efficiency and cost-effectiveness
  • Identifies, analyzes and coordinates all capital projects
  • Oversees annual maintenance projects with internal staff and outside vendors

Human Resources

  • Oversees and effectively implements all policies and procedures related to hiring and terminations
  • Stays abreast of changes in HR laws and updates the HR policies accordingly, in conjunction with the community
  • Manages relationships with business partners for benefit plans and legal advisors for general HR issues
  • Oversees all policies and procedures related to payroll, including tracking absences and reasons for absences
  • Manages relationships with the Chicago Teacher Pension Fund and 403(b) management representatives

Governance

  • Serves on the Finance, Facility, and Development Committees of the Board of Directors (BoD)
  • Leads the Finance and Facility committee meetings
  • Prepares and delivers reports to the Board on school operations including, but not limited to, Finance, Facility, Advocacy and Human Resources
  • Ensures adherence to BoD bylaws and legal compliance requirements
  • Acts as FOIA Officer (responds to all FOIA requests)
  • Ensures updated board roster, contact information and other board records

Advocacy

  • Participates in CPS, Charter and Garfield Ridge neighborhood advocacy groups as assembled
  • Represents AGC in INCS meetings and legislative advocacy, with the support of the Principal
  • Keeps board informed on advocacy issues

Development

  • Manages relationship with third-party contractor for development initiatives
  • Represents AGC in donor cultivation and relationship management activities

 

 

Required Skills and Experience

  • Familiarity with CPS compliance reporting, as well as state and federal program reporting
  • Minimum of 5 years experience managing financial reporting and budgets for non-profit or educational institutions
  • Fully versed in accounting principles, balance sheets, and financial statements
  • Experience managing the audit process for non-profit
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with operations and facility management
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience with a charter school or a charter network preferred

 

Education Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field
  • CSBO endorsement, school business management, or human resource credentials preferred
