Instructional Interventionist

The Academy for Global Citizenship is seeking both full-time and part-time Instructional Interventionists for the 2014-2015 school year. The instructional interventionist will collaborate with classroom teachers to provide small group interventions based on student needs evident from data collected.  This position is ideal for recent education graduates who want to gain experience in a wonderful school. At least one position is in a Dual Language classroom (Spanish/English). You will receive training to implement various interventions.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing in-classroom set up with partner teacher for the first four weeks of school
  • Working with the Literacy Specialist to establish a schedule for student intervention
  • Providing small group interventions outside or in the classroom
  • Providing classroom coverage for designated partner teacher during testing
  • Breakfast/lunch and recess duties

Middle School Teacher

Teachers are responsible for helping our children learn, classroom management, participating in professional development, providing feedback to others, assisting in the development and improvements of curriculum, and communicating to staff and parents regarding student performance. Teachers must be committed to promoting in students the student profile qualities as described by the International Middle Primary Years Program (MYP): inquirers, thinkers, communicators, risk takers, knowledgeable, principled, caring, open-minded, well-balanced, and reflective.  Teachers report to the Principal.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching: provides students with various modes of learning to accommodate their different learning styles, by using inquiry, real-life experiences, current events, information technology, the dramatic arts and other lively sources of knowledge.
  • Content: Teach middle school students assigned content area according to Middle Years Program principles.
  • Additional Content:  Teach daily elective and advisory period.
  • Instructional Strategies: responsible for using many different types of instructional strategies including teaching through inquiry, differentiating instruction (different learning styles and language backgrounds) and data-driven instruction.
  • Technology Integration: incorporates technology across all disciplines as much as possible, where appropriate.
  • Professional Development: participates in coaching cycle, stays abreast of latest techniques and demonstrates an eagerness to learn new skills and share experiences with others.
  • Curriculum Development: works closely with coach, other teachers to ensure taught curriculum is aligned with Common Core Learning Standards, the IB PYP, and is achieving the goals of the school.
  • Performance Assessment: sets high and measurable goals for student achievement and evaluates student progress in the instructional program.
  • Community: encourages the use of community resources, cooperates with families in welcoming them to our community, and maintains solid communication with all community members.

The Academy for Global Citizenship is seeking a full-time Spanish Teacher for the 2014-2015 school year. This position is for Kindergarten to Second Grade. We have both monolingual and dual language programs. You will teach Spanish as a second language in the monolingual program and provide enrichment activities in the dual language program.

Teachers are responsible for helping our children learn, classroom management, participating in professional development, providing feedback to others, assisting in the development and improvements of curriculum, and communicating to staff and parents regarding student performance. Business Manager

The Academy for Global Citizenship (AGC) is a non-profit Chicago public charter school, located on the underserved Southwest side of Chicago.  Our innovative and holistic approach to education aims to foster systemic change and inspire the way society educates our future generations. We are producing a replicable model for learning in the 21st century, including the construction of a net-positive energy campus.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Business Manager is responsible for a number of accounting and technology duties, with a primary focus on IT systems management and accounts payable. The ideal candidate is an experienced person who can provide outstanding service for the school’s technology needs, is highly proficient in QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel, is analytical and collaborative.

Technology Systems:

  • Service inventory of Apple MacBooks (operating systems, applications, profiles, hardware repair and spare parts).
  • Manage data for school testing, demographics, and enrollment.
  • Be a collaborative resource in training teachers and staff in use of technology. 

  • Manage telecommunications equipment, IT resources and all information systems.
  • Oversee staff and vendors to ensure smooth operations, including network administration, backups, and ongoing special projects related to hardware, software, and data management.
  • Oversee E-rate funding application processes and reporting.

Business Administration:

  • Manage procurement and inventory of school supplies and process expense reimbursements.
  • Administer effective accounting, planning, budgeting efforts, including payroll, insurance and benefits.
  • Prepare annual budget in collaboration with the Administrative Team.  Ensure timely bi-weekly (internal) and monthly Board review of the financial condition and performance relative to financial objectives. 
  • Monitor budgets to ensure that all expenditure of funds meet all state, federal, local, and grant guidelines.
  • Review and enforce financial and accounting policies. Implement business processes to ensure adequate financial and cost controls.
  • Maintain QuickBooks data entry.
  • Manage all banking business and technology related vendor relationships, flows of funds, procurement, etc., and ensure an effective system of internal control is present.
  • Oversee the annual audit and ensure compliance with all reporting entities, including an array of foundation and government funding sources.
  • Provide accounting and reporting for all gifts, grants and donations.
  • Support the operation of all facilities, including janitorial, safety and security needs with a commitment to the Academy for Global Citizenship’s sustainable mission.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Entrepreneurial thinker with a desire to support the vision and mission of the Academy for Global Citizenship
  • Willingness and enthusiasm for doing whatever it takes to ensure the tech and financial needs of the school are met
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong problem-solving capabilities
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing hardware, peripherals, software, operating systems and internet connections

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology-Systems/Computer Science and Accounting/Finance preferred
