In recognition of our approach to environmental education, the National Wildlife Federation and HSBC’s Eco-Schools campaign has awarded us their highest status: a Green Flag! To earn this award, our sustainability team conducted an environmental audit, developed an Eco-Action Plan which was incorporated in part into our curriculum, and reached beyond our walls to involve our community in the school’s sustainable efforts.
In addition to this honor, our garden space, including our edible schoolyard garden, native plants and colorful flowers, was recognized for providing a wildlife-friendly landscape in our industrial neighborhood. Our gardens attract birds, butterflies and other important insects and provide them the opportunity to live or just rest in a nutrient-rich, pesticide-free habitat.
We are excited to announce that the NWF will be visiting our school on Monday January 28th from 3:15-3:45 to present our Green Flag and speak with students about their eco-initiatives.
Thank you to the National Wildlife Federation and HSBC for encouraging environmental stewardship in our communities and schools.
