When in Doubt, Borrow a Backhoe

9 Apr

This week we saw evidence of how it takes a community to plant a school garden.  That’s Dan Schnitzer, Director of Sustainability and Operations, with the shovel and Danny Wright, Maintenance Manager, at the wheel of the backhoe working hard to prepare our garden for spring planting.  Many thanks go to Christy Webber Landscapes for donating new topsoil, Jerry’s Palette Company across the street for letting us borrow the backhoe, and our neighbor Dave for helping to shovel!  On Monday, we will receive a shipment of compost from the Chicago High School for the Agricultural Sciences.  All we need now are some plants, sun, rain, and kids!
